Hey All,

Daryl here. I'm really interested to see what you guys thing of shows you've been to of mine, both acoustic and with the band. What songs do you like? What songs don't you like? And so on...

Studio Journal - Volume 3

Well, I know it's been a long time since I wrote entry to the Studio Journal, but here goes...
Chris Jagich and Dana Stenson (from my band) have been lending their talents to the the new album as we put the finishing touches on recording. Any project that spans the amount of time this one has is bound to go through changes, and we've been through a ton. The track listing hardly resembles what it was when we started, and the musical range is much wider than we anticipated. Basically, it's turning out better than we ever imagined. Our hope is to finish it and release it in April in conjunction with a big cd release show. So keep watching the website for more info on that. It won't be long now!

We're starting the new year off right! The Daryl Smith Band will be playing at the Hard Rock Cafe at Fashion Island in Newport Beach on Friday, January 16th @ 9:30pm sharp. The lovely and talented Dana Stenson will be joining us once again as well. Tickets are only $7 in advance versus $10 at the door, so be sure and get yours early. Once More With The Band

I couldn't be more excited for this show! I'll be returning to the Fierro's stage for Mike Barnet's weekly Religion For Robots concert series in Downtown Fullerton on Tuesday, September 16th. Last time I played there I was joined on stage by my good friends percussionist Kaisara Esera, and vocalist Dana Stenson. This time they'll both be back, but we're throwing Kaisara behind a full drum kit, and inviting guitarist Chris Jagich and bassist Kyle Mack as well. That's right, folks....we're going full band! We've been rehearsing this past week, and I can say without a doubt that you've never heard my music like this before. These guys take it to a whole new level!

So, come out and join us! Mike Barnet will be performing with his band, PORO, as well, and if you've never heard those guys, you're missing something amazing. It all starts at 8pm sharp on Tuesday, September 16th. Check the shows page for more information. Hope to see you there!

Big Show!!

I've got a big show coming up in Hollywood! I'll be playing at very cool singer/songwriter club called The Acoustic Playhouse on Thursday, June 26th @ 8:00pm. If you're free, and willing to drive to Hollywood on a Thursday night, please try to make it out to this show. I need to get as many people out as I can. Friday's show at The Streetlite was a great time! Chris and I played an significantly longer set than usual, which gave me the chance to pull out some older songs that I haven't performed in a while. Jonathan Stier was awesome! With his laid back style of performance and musicianship, along with a unique blending of english and portuguese, it's a really cool experience to watch him play. We're hoping to get him out to play again, so stay tuned for that.

In other show news, tickets are now on sale for the 4/25 Soapbox Music Revue show at The Bluebird Art House in Uptown Whittier, CA. Tickets are only $3 pre-sale, and $5 at the door. This is truly the best place to experience the Soapbox Music Revue. The setting is intimate and the atmosphere is perfect for enjoying acoustic music. Chris and I are very proud of how the Bluebird shows turn out, and they're always our favorites to play. Come out and experience it for yourself. Aside from Chris and myself, there are usually 2 or 3 other performers. This time around we have hauntingly melodic singer/songwriter Rod Harrison and harp guitarist Echo Greywolf. Studio Journal - Volume 1

Welcome to my new Studio Journal. These posts will allow you to follow along with recording of my upcoming new album as it nears completion. It's been a long time in the making, but the wait will be well worth it. First...an important introduction. The album is being produced by Ian Miller. Born and raised in Scotland, Ian has done all kinds of producing all over the place, and now produces for L&L Music Studios in Anaheim, California, which is where I've done all of my solo recording. Ian has been the lifeblood behind this project, constantly pushing it forward and having just as much dedication to it as I do. Ian produced The Gracie Sessions, as well as The Silver EP by the band Christopher Sandoval and I used to be in, Swerve. He and I have been working together for a long time on this project and we couldn't be more excited about how it's turning out.

Last week's session turned out to be a very surreal and sobering experience. We were tracking electric guitar on the same night that bombs started dropping on Iraq. It was very odd to have the television on muted in the background as we recorded and glanced over every few minutes for an update. Despite concerns of bigger things, the tracks came out great and we're moving ahead. More vocals and overdubs will be recorded in the weeks to come, and I'll try to post more sneak previews on my MP3.com site. For now you can go there and listen to previews of "November" and "Count By Nines". Please feel free to make any comments or ask any questions you want using the comment link below. This site will continue as the Daryl Smith Music Forum and will be a place to discuss various topics such as songs, music, other artists, current events, etc. I'll also be starting a Studio Journal so you can track the progress of my new album as it nears completion. Please feel free to comment on any and everything you read here. Consider it a free form discussion. Posts here will be much more frequent (almost daily) than on the main site, which will feature mostly pertinent news, significant recording updates and all show dates. Very Cool Performance

I'll performing as the opening act of a late night improv comedy theatre show THIS FRIDAY NIGHT called The Fleabitten Varmints.

New Shows

I'll be playing two shows in the next couple weeks, and both have some special guests that I'm really excited about!
Jessica Miller has been a close friend of mine for the past 11 years, and she's an excellent singer/songwriter. Come check her and our friend Kaisara Esera out at the Streetlite. I'll actually be sitting in with both of them, so I'll be on stage the whole night. Vanya Van Essen is another incredible singer/songwriter who's actually working with me on my new album. The Gathering

If you don't already know about "The Gathering", it's a Saturday night worship service I play in every week. Great modern worship music with worship leader Chris Stanley, and great teaching by Pastor Frank Winans. It's at Woodbridge Community Church in Irvine, CA every Saturday night at 6pm. Normally, I handle guitar, piano and background vocals, but since Chris will be out of town for two weeks, I'll be heading up the band twice in January. If you want to come join me and the band for worship, I'll be leading on January 11th and January 18th. Or come on any other week to hear the normal band led by Chris.

New Album coming along...

I've been working in the studio a lot this summer on my new full length album. The recording process has been long, and isn't quite done yet, but I'm convinced the finished product will be well worth the wait. My producer, Ian Miller, has helped take this record far beyond my expectations, and I couldn't be more excited!
